“Thy Word, our law”?

A Replica of the Liberty Bell in Juneau, Alaska

Tonight, our little church will celebrate our country’s Independence Day with prayer for our nation.  Tragically, America is on the brink of falling, unless she will fall to her knees and repent before God Almighty.

As I was practicing this hymn to sing this evening, I noticed the year the lyrics* were penned by Daniel Crane Roberts: 1876!  Was it written to celebrate this country’s founding one hunderd years earlier?  Yes!  (I looked up the history of the song in my book on hymns. It had been written for the 100th year anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.  Later the lyrics were set to its current music for the Constitution’s Centennial celebration by George William Warren.)

As we look at America today, can we claim that Pastor Robert’s line “Thy Word, our law, Thy paths are chosen way” still reflects the course of this nation?

Do we still follow “true religion”?  Sadly, many in America are enjoying the blessings of liberty, while snubbing their noses toward God and His paths.

I saw a posting today from Allstate Insurance, that July 4th is the deadliest day for teenagers in America. Did God give us liberty to spend on drunken debauchery?

Did God give us liberty to kill babies in their mothers’ wombs?

Did God give us liberty to cheat workers from their wages?

Did God give us liberty to corrupt our youth with witchcraft and perversion?

Did God give us liberty to idolize rock stars and ignore Him?

Yes,  God gave us free will to choose.  But there are still consequences to living a life outside His laws.   You are a slave to sin and not truly free!   (Please read for more on this: Slaves: to Sin or Righteousness?  by Rev. Toriano Mayo.)

Yes, God gave us the free will to choose, but He says, “Choose life!”   Jesus Christ is Life!

Yes, God gave us the free will to choose, but He did not give us liberty to encourage us in sin! True liberty is not a license to sin.  It is the liberty to be all who God made you to be.  He did NOT make you to be a pervert or a drunk or a thief or a murderer!  He did NOT make you to lust after the things of the flesh, but to celebrate in Him!

We are in danger of losing our liberties, because we have rejected the Holy Giver! “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!” (2 Cor 3:17)  The Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of Liberty does NOT abide in unholy places.   The Spirit of the Lord is what has distinguished this nation as a beacon of hope.   Is our Light about to be extinguished?

Thomas Jefferson wrote:

The God who gave us liberty… Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction … that these liberties are the gift of God?”

If the Lord tarries, will a free America survive for our grandchildren?  Please, America, return to God!  Amen!

God of our Fathers

Lyrics by Daniel Crane Roberts

God of our fathers, whose almighty hand

Leads forth in beauty all the starry band

Of shining worlds in splendor through the skies

Our grateful songs before Thy throne arise.

*

Thy love divine hath led us in the past,

In this free land by Thee our lot is cast,

Be Thou our Ruler, Guardian, Guide and Stay,

Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen way.

*

From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,

Be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense;

Thy true religion in our hearts increase,

Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.

*

Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way,

Lead us from night to never ending day;

Fill all our lives with love and grace divine,

And glory, laud, and praise be ever Thine.

A Blessed Pesach

Today is Passover. Last night was Good Friday and the start of Passover. Last night Jews and Christians around the world were honoring YHWH who saves!

This morning, I opened my Bible and my eyes fell on Ezekiel 37:13 :

“Then you shall know that I AM the LORD when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves…”

Was Paul thinking of Ezekiel 37 when he wrote “And so all Israel will be saved….”? (Romans 11:26)

Indeed, the Lord’s words in the passage above are preceded with, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel.” (Eze 37:11) Think of that!

Then the words continue: “They [the whole house of Israel] indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’”

So there is seen here that the whole house of Israel will confess their hopelessness! Is it not when we come to the end of our own strength and find ourselves lacking that we confess our hopelessness and turn to the LORD who can with His breath breathe new life into a situation?  And so He will – for the whole house of Israel!” HalleluYAH!

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May they be secure who love you!” (Psalm 122:6)

City of Peace

“The city will never again be uprooted or demolished.”   Jeremiah 31:40

Some people think that all the Old Testament prophecies have been fulfilled already.   Certainly, enough of them have been that we can be assured that God’s word is true.  But there remain numerous prophecies to be ultimately fulfilled regarding Jerusalem, the City of Peace.   The promise from Jeremiah above remains unfulfilled… but maybe it is soon to be fulfilled!  (Zechariah 14)

The city was demolished after Christ’s time on earth.  Jerusalem was ravaged by Titus 70 AD; again by Hadrian in 135 AD; warfare over and in her has continued over the centuries.  But God’s word will be fulfilled and Jerusalem will be a City of Peace, as her name foreshadows, never again to be “uprooted or demolished”.

Maybe you over-spiritualize the promise.  But a wholly spiritual interpretation of “Jerusalem” would not be so precisely geographically defined as in Jeremiah 31:38-40.   God loves people, but He also loves His creation, including the earth.  Indeed, “The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed….to be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.  We know that the whole creation has been groaning…”  (Romans 8:19-22) Do you not hear the earth groaning, even more and more?

The promise of the City of Peace is also stated in Joel 3:17.  “Jerusalem will be holy; never again will foreigners invade her.”  Historically, Jerusalem has been invaded in the last two thousand years more than once!

Why has history revolved so much for centuries around this city?   Crusades have been launched over her; she has truly been a “cup of trembling” for the nations. (Zech 12:2)  And why?   Since God has chosen Jerusalem, Satan defies the Holy One of Israel!  Hence, this battle over Zion, over Jerusalem.

The beginning of Joel 3:17 declares:

“So you shall know that I am the Lord your God,
who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain.”

Satan wants that which belongs to God!

Jerusalem is the city God has chosen for His own.  Granted, it has often played the harlot.  But God loves her nonetheless and though He has judged her often, He will remain faithful to her.  (If you’d like many more Scriptures regarding this, search “dwell Zion” in the Biblefox Bible search.)

Yes, I realize there is also a spiritual understanding of these verses but that does not diminish the obvious.  God is not a liar.   If a man made a contract with you to give you land and then afterward said, “Well, I didn’t mean physical land; I was referring to pie in the sky”,  you would feel as if you had been cheated and take that man to court.  God is not a liar nor a trickster.

God asked His people to pray for the peace of Jerusalem!  (Psalm 122) If you want peace and security, seek her good – not only the “spiritual” city, but also the actual city to which all these Scriptures refer.  I pray for the peace of the city of Jerusalem situated in the country of Israel AND I pray for the people all over the globe who are a spiritual Israel, the Church.   But someday “all Israel”, all the princes of God, will be saved.  (Romans 11:25-26)  That will include many Israelis who are “inhabitants of Jerusalem” who will “look on [Christ], the One they have pierced…”  (Zech 12:10- 13:1)  The fountain of salvation will open to them, for God will open their eyes who are blinded for now, and this will be to God’s ultimate glory.  They will receive their Messiah!   “And so all Israel shall be saved!”  God wants us who already know Messiah to pray for those beloved, those of God’s election, (Romans 11:28) who will in God’s time and for His glory also know Jesus of Nazareth as their promised Messiah!

Will you not join with the Lord in praying for His eternal purposes?  Or will you be like so much of the institutional, historical church who throughout centuries has despised and mistreated and killed the people through whom were entrusted the Scriptures and the seed of Messiah?   God forbid!  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

A Prayer for Our Nation

and also a declaration of the Word of the LORD for the people of God:

Psalm 125:3 (NKJ)

“For the scepter of wickedness SHALL NOT rest on the land allotted to the righteous!”

(Emphasis mine.)

Yes, I believe these United States (as well as Israel) was allotted for the righteous.  Therefore, I declare that holy word over our nation and pray for the LORD to “surround His people” (Ps 125:2) here, in Israel, and all over the world for “the earth is the LORD’s and the fullness therein” (Ps 24:1)

Yesterday, on the eve of election (11-1-10), we gathered, as I’m sure many saints did, to intercede for America. Everything we prayed was somehow related to a return to righteousness in this land, a land provided by Almighty God so that we may live in liberty, free to worship and free to prosper. We prayed for a return to our foundations in the truths of our wonderful foundational documents of liberty: the Declaration of Independence; the US Constitution; and most importantly, that most liberating and most wonderful book, the Word of God. For truly, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!” (2 Cor 3:17)

Our foundational American documents were drafted, debated and adopted in the city of Philadelphia. We prayed that our nation be re-established in Philadelphia: not “Philadelphia, PA” but the in the spiritual, exemplary church of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia church, one of the seven churches in the book of Revelation, (Rev 3:7-13), was one of only two churches that did NOT receive a rebuke from the Lord Jesus Christ. (See my entry “Seven Churches Chart”.) Philadelphia means “brotherly love”.

Why no rebuke? Because of their faithfulness to His Word, and I’m sure that includes living up to their name! If one is faithful to His Word, one must act and live upon His Word, and His command is to love Him, first and foremost, and, secondly, to love our neighbors. (Gal 5:14)

Let us therefore pray that our nation be re-established in brotherly love. Let us be a nation of brotherly love with a commitment to improving the lives of others. Let everyone who is able and calls himself Christian, be somehow active in helping others. If the Church, not the institution but the Spirit-led people of God, lead the true Way in this nation, God will bless us for it is “righteousness [that] exalts a nation”. (Pro 14:34)

Psalm 24:1

“The earth is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;

the world, and those who dwell therein.”

The Word of the Lord is Truth. If you are part of His Army (Psalm 24:10) , your sword is His Word. (Ephesians 6:17) Wield it! Speak it! Proclaim it! Declare it! We walk by faith and not by sight (2 Cor 5:7). The earth is the Lord’s! HalleluYAH!

PSALM 2:8

“Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance,
the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.”

As part of the Body of Christ, let us join with His Spirit, in asking for the nations. Has the Spirit of the Lord laid a nation or people group upon your heart? Let’s proclaim His Word over it together.

America (part of the earth/world, is it not?) “is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;”
America, “and those who dwell therein.”

Belarus “is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;”
Belarus “and those who dwell therein.”

India “is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;”
India, “and those who dwell therein.”

New Zealand “is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;”
New Zealand, “and those who dwell therein.”

Nicaragua “is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;”
Nicaragua, “and those who dwell therein.”

Israel “is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;”
Israel, “and those who dwell therein.”

If you’re led, please add (in reply) your declaration for the country which the Lord has put on your heart. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to cover every nation? Let’s commit to spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:12) on a regular, consistent basis for the earth using His Word, our sword!

HalleluYAH!
